Rangareddy: Two engineering students died of electrocution after coming into contact with a live electric fence surrounding an agricultural field in Moinabad mandal of Telangana’s Rangareddy district on Friday night. The victims, both aged 20, were students of KG Reddy Engineering College.
The deceased have been identified as Moksha Sai Charan, a resident of Attapur, and Yashwanth, who lived in Balkampet. Preliminary information suggests that the two students ran towards the agricultural field after a police patrolling vehicle approached a group of students gathered in an open area.
The electric fencing around the field reportedly carried live wires installed to protect crops from wild boars. Charan and Yashwanth suffered severe electric shocks and died at the spot.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, including the circumstances in which the students came into contact with the electrified wires and the installation of the fencing around the agricultural land.

Students reportedly went to open area with friends
According to preliminary police information, eight students from KG Reddy Engineering College had gathered in an open area behind Padmavati Function Hall in Peddamangalaram village on Friday night.
The group had reportedly gone there to consume alcohol. While they were at the location, a police patrolling vehicle approached the area.
The students allegedly panicked after noticing the police vehicle and ran in different directions. During the commotion, Charan and Yashwanth moved towards a nearby agricultural field.
The two students reportedly came into contact with the electric fence surrounding the field. The fencing was said to have been installed to prevent wild boars from entering the farmland and damaging crops.
The electric wires carried a live current, and the students suffered fatal electric shocks. They died at the scene.
The sequence of events is based on preliminary information, and investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Electric fence reportedly installed to protect crops
The agricultural field was surrounded by electrified wires reportedly intended to keep wild animals, particularly wild boars, away from the crops.
Electric fencing is sometimes used by farmers to prevent animals from entering agricultural land. However, improperly installed or unauthorised electrification can pose a serious danger to people and animals that come into contact with the wires.
In this case, police are investigating how the live electric fencing was installed and whether the necessary safety precautions were followed.
The probe is also expected to establish the source of the electricity powering the wires and the arrangements made to prevent accidental contact.
The circumstances are particularly significant because the students reportedly entered the field while fleeing from the area where they had gathered. Investigators will need to establish the exact route taken by the two students and how they came into contact with the fence.
No conclusions about responsibility have been established at this stage.
Police shift bodies to Osmania General Hospital
After receiving information about the incident, police personnel reached the agricultural field and took steps to handle the situation.
The bodies of the two students were subsequently shifted to the mortuary at Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The medical examinations are expected to form part of the investigation into the deaths. Police are also gathering information about the events leading up to the electrocution.
The authorities are examining the accounts of the other students who were present at the location. Their statements could help investigators reconstruct what happened after the police patrol vehicle approached the group.
Investigation focuses on circumstances of electrocution
Police have initiated an investigation into the deaths of Charan and Yashwanth. A key part of the probe concerns the installation and operation of the live electric fence around the agricultural field.
Investigators are looking into whether the wires were connected to an electricity supply in a manner that could cause fatal injuries. They are also examining whether adequate measures were in place to prevent people from accidentally touching the fencing.
The investigation will seek to establish the sequence of events, the source of the electric current and any possible lapses relating to the installation of the wires.
The statements of the surviving students and other people familiar with the agricultural field may also help clarify the circumstances.
Two young lives lost in a preventable electrocution incident
The deaths of the two engineering students have brought attention to the risks associated with live electric fencing around agricultural land. While such arrangements may be used to protect crops from wild animals, exposed or unsafe electrified wires can endanger anyone who comes near them.
The investigation in Moinabad will establish how the fencing was installed and whether safety requirements were followed. For now, police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident as the bodies undergo post-mortem examinations.
