Hyderabad: Telangana Governor and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday resigned from her post.

She is likely to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu on the BJP ticket.

“The Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Tamilisai Soundararajan has tendered her resignation with immediate effect. The resignation has been submitted to the Hon’ble President of India,” reads a communique from Raj Bhavan.

Tamilisai, the former president of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit, had taken over as the first woman Governor of Telangana in 2019.

On the same day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s anticipated election rally in Telangana’s Jagtial and a roadshow in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore, Tamilisai Soundararajan tendered her resignation from the position of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. This decision follows discussions with the national leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to an official statement, Tamilisai Soundararajan has been advised to prepare for contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from either Tamil Nadu or Puducherry. The decision was made after deliberations with the BJP’s central leadership.

Sources indicate that Tamilisai Soundararajan communicated her decision to Prime Minister Modi, who was staying at the Raj Bhavan overnight on Saturday. She expressed her eagerness to actively participate in politics once again by contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
