A remand hearing at the Bhopal district court witnessed serious disorder on Tuesday after a 19-year-old accused in a case involving a minor was allegedly confronted by a group of lawyers, raising concerns over security and decorum within court premises.
Court proceedings disrupted
The accused, Osaf Ali Khan, was produced before the court by police following his arrest in connection with offences against an 11th-grade student. According to officials, during the proceedings, several advocates and members of the public gathered around the police escort, leading to a scuffle and verbal confrontation.
Police personnel intervened to control the situation, and videos showing arguments between lawyers and police later circulated on social media.
Details of the complaint
Police stated that the accused allegedly befriended the minor through a mutual acquaintance and later exploited the relationship. He is accused of recording inappropriate material and using it to intimidate the victim for money, causing severe mental distress.
The minor later informed her family, following which a formal complaint was filed.
Legal action initiated
An FIR was registered at Kohefiza Police Station under provisions of the POCSO Act, along with relevant sections related to extortion, intimidation and other offences.
Police statement
Kohefiza Station House Officer Krishna Gopal Shukla said the accused was taken into custody promptly and his mobile phone seized for forensic examination. “He has been placed on police remand for further investigation. Action will be taken strictly as per law based on evidence,” he said.
Authorities have also said they are reviewing the courtroom incident to identify those involved and to prevent similar disruptions in future.
