In a recent incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Monday, suspected terrorists launched a coordinated attack, resulting in injuries to a soldier and a relative of a Shaurya Chakra awardee. The Indian Army reported that the attackers targeted both a security post and the residence of Parshotam Kumar, who recently received the Shaurya Chakra for his bravery.
Officials indicated that the terrorists operated in two groups during the assault, with one group aiming for the security post and another for Kumar’s home, where his uncle sustained injuries in the ensuing gunfire. Following intense exchanges, security forces successfully thwarted the attacks, prompting a subsequent search and cordon operation in the Gundha area.
The army spokesperson disclosed that the initial attack on the security post occurred at around 4 am, precipitating a fierce response from troops stationed there. A fresh round of firing erupted as security forces intensified their efforts with the ongoing cordon and search operation.
This incident comes amidst a recent surge in terrorist activities across various districts including Kathua, Reasi, Rajouri, and Doda, ahead of scheduled elections later this year. Notably, a prior attack in Doda resulted in casualties among army personnel, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the region.
In response, the northern command of the Indian Army, based in Udhampur, emphasized its ongoing joint operations with the Jammu and Kashmir Police to neutralize foreign terrorists who have infiltrated the region. These operations, characterized by close coordination and robust intelligence sharing, aim to eliminate the threat of terrorism while minimizing disruption to civilian life.
The army reaffirmed its commitment to proactive counter-terrorism measures, highlighting recent successful operations including the elimination of terrorists in Urarbagi and Gandoh. They underscored the importance of community engagement and intelligence gathering in their efforts to maintain security in the region.
