Two individuals have been apprehended for allegedly absconding with a vehicle they took for a test drive from a used car dealership in Karol Bagh, Delhi, according to police reports on Monday.

On October 27, the suspects—Vikas, also known as Sonu, and Mohit—visited the car showroom on Arya Samaj Road and purportedly took a Ford Endeavour for a test drive. Accompanying them was Rajinder, an employee at the showroom serving as the driver. “While on the test drive, Vikas and Mohit asked Rajinder to inspect the engine midway. As soon as he exited the vehicle, the duo sped off,” stated M. Harsha Vardhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Central Delhi.

A specialized team, led by Inspector Raghuveer Singh and including several police officers, conducted an exhaustive investigation. On Saturday, authorities tracked the suspects to a site near Sonepat along the Delhi-Rohtak highway in Haryana. The stolen SUV was recovered following a raid.

During interrogation, Sonu admitted to having a criminal background and disclosed their intention to use the stolen vehicle for a criminal act, intending to stage an accident to disguise their crime. “Their plan was driven by a desire for revenge against a relative who had filed legal actions against Mohit,” the officer elaborated.

Sonu has a record of multiple offenses, including attempted murder, rape, and violations of the Arms Act, according to the DCP.
