Three employees were injured after an idli steamer exploded at Chutney’s restaurant in LB Nagar on Friday afternoon, causing panic among customers and staff.

According to preliminary information, a loud blast was heard from the kitchen area around noon, prompting diners to rush out of the premises in fear.

Staff rushed to hospital

Hotel staff immediately alerted local police and the fire department. The injured workers were shifted to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

Officials said the injuries are non-life-threatening and the condition of the employees is stable.

Police from LB Nagar reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident.

Pressure build-up suspected

Authorities suspect that excessive pressure inside the cooking equipment may have led to the explosion. However, the exact cause will be determined after a detailed technical inspection.

Fire department personnel examined the kitchen area to assess damage and ensure there was no further risk. The incident has raised concerns over safety checks and maintenance of high-pressure cooking equipment in commercial kitchens.

Officials said further action will depend on the findings of the inspection report.
