Satna (MP): Three individuals lost their lives and two others were hospitalized in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district after inhaling what is believed to be poisonous gas from a well they entered to rescue a cow, a police official reported on Thursday.
The incident occurred in Umri village on Wednesday night, the official noted. “A group of villagers found that a cow had accidentally fallen into a well, prompting three of them to descend into the well using ropes to save the animal,” said Ashok Pandey, the officer in charge of Nagoud police station.
However, the rescuers experienced severe breathlessness upon entering the well. One man, who managed to escape, collapsed outside. The villagers then alerted the police, Pandey explained.
A police team promptly arrived at the scene, and with their assistance, local residents, using wet cloths to cover their faces, entered the well to attempt a rescue, Pandey continued.
Despite the villagers’ efforts to retrieve the three men from the well, all were declared dead on the spot by a doctor who was called to assist.
The victims have been identified as Ashok Singh, 45, Ramratan, 22, and Vishnu, 24.
Two others, who were also injured while attempting to save the initial rescuers, were taken to a local government hospital, Pandey said. One of them was later discharged, while the other remains under medical observation.
The cow, unfortunately, also died after falling into the well, Pandey added. The local police have registered a case and investigation is going on and a postmortem report may throw a light possible reason for this tragic deaths.
