A three-year-old girl succumbed to severe burn injuries late on Sunday night after accidentally spilling hot water on herself while playing outside her house in Pathagunta village of Vedurukuppam mandal, under the Gangadhara Nellore Assembly constituency in Chittoor district.

Accident occurred while playing near house

The child, identified as Madhusri, was the younger daughter of Arun Kumar and Suryalahari. According to family members, the incident occurred about a week ago when Madhusri was playing near the house. During that time, she accidentally overturned a vessel containing hot water that had been kept on a stove, resulting in serious burn injuries.

Family members immediately rushed the child for medical help.

Shifted to Tirupati, later referred to Vellore

Madhusri was first admitted to S.V.R. Ruia Government General Hospital, where doctors began treatment. However, as her condition remained critical, she was later referred to Christian Medical College for advanced care.

Despite receiving intensive treatment for several days, the child’s condition deteriorated. She ultimately succumbed to her injuries on Sunday night, hospital sources confirmed.

Village plunged into grief

The death of the young child has cast a pall of gloom over Pathagunta village, with residents expressing shock and sorrow over the tragic accident. Neighbours and relatives gathered at the family’s residence to offer condolences and support to the grieving parents.

Local residents also stressed the need for greater awareness about household safety, especially where young children are present, to prevent such tragic accidents.

Police said the incident was accidental in nature and no foul play was suspected.
