In a heartbreaking incident, a one-year-old boy died after allegedly drowning in a bucket of water at his residence in Tsunami Quarters in Ennore on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammed Fahad, the youngest son of Muneer Basha and Reshma Banu. According to police, the family had been staying with Reshma’s sister, Shabana.
Child reportedly crawled into bathroom
Police said the incident occurred in the afternoon when Fahad’s father had gone to his shop along with the elder son. Meanwhile, the child’s mother had stepped out briefly to deliver lunch to her husband, leaving Fahad under the care of Shabana.
During preliminary investigations, police learnt that Shabana had gone to the bathroom when the child allegedly crawled behind her unnoticed. Fahad is believed to have fallen into a bucket filled with water while she was inside.
After coming out of the bathroom, Shabana reportedly found the child unconscious and immediately alerted neighbours.
Rushed to hospital, declared dead
The child was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
The incident has left the family devastated, while residents in the locality expressed shock over the tragedy.
The Ennore police registered a case and sent the body for postmortem examination. After the formalities, the body was handed over to the family.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the importance of constant supervision of toddlers at home, especially around water-filled containers and household hazards
