In a heart-rending incident, a three-year-old boy lost his life on Thursday morning in Laxminagar area, opposite the Art School, after a tragic accident involving a flour grinding machine at his home.
Playful morning turns fatal
The child, affectionately called “Kahna” by neighbours, was reportedly playing around his mother inside their house, where the family runs a small snack vending shop. According to sources, family members were operating a flour grinding machine to prepare flour for the shop when the toddler wandered close to the running equipment.
In a moment of curiosity, the boy is said to have inserted his hand into the machine. His arm was pulled in, and he subsequently fell into the grinder. Reports indicate that the chain around his neck became entangled in the machinery, leading to strangulation and asphyxiation.
Family members immediately rushed the critically injured child to the District Headquarters Hospital, Jeypore. However, doctors declared him brought dead on arrival due to severe injuries and lack of breathing.
Neighbourhood in shock
The entire Laxminagar locality has been engulfed in grief, with residents mourning the loss of the lively little boy who was known and loved by many in the area.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy. Authorities are also expected to examine safety conditions surrounding the use of heavy machinery in residential spaces.
The incident serves as a painful reminder of the need for constant supervision of children and strict safety measures when operating mechanical equipment at home.
