Hyderabad: KR Sreenivas, Resident Editor of Times of India’s Hyderabad branch, has resigned amid allegations of sexual misconduct. This is the first case, so far, where a senior journalist has resigned due to allegations emerging in the wake of the #MeToo movement in the country. Multiple women have accused Sreenivas of sending lewd messages, making sexual advances, inappropriate physical contact and mental torture.
While sources have said that the senior journalist has already resigned, it is yet unclear if he was asked to step down or if his move was voluntary. In his resignation letter, he states that he is quitting because he is constantly being ‘targeted’.
TOI has released a statement saying that they are committed to providing a safe working environment to all their employees. To keep to this commitment, they said that they would be looking into the claims being made against Sreenivas and that they would hold a fair and impartial inquiry into the matter.
All the seven women, who have accused Sreenivas of sexual misconduct, petitioned the company to sack the senior journalist while recounting their experiences.
