A group of tourists reportedly ended their Goa vacation early after an alleged confrontation with local taxi drivers in North Goa, according to a viral Reddit post that has reignited discussions around transport-related concerns in the state.
The post, titled “Thought renting a car would save us from the Goa taxi scene. Nope,” described how the travellers had rented a self-drive vehicle to avoid common taxi-related issues often discussed by tourists online.
Tourists allege roadside confrontation
According to the Reddit user, the first part of the trip went smoothly until a local cab driver allegedly hit the left side of their parked rental vehicle.
The tourist claimed the driver then became aggressive and called other taxi drivers to the location, leading to a tense roadside argument that reportedly lasted around 30 minutes.
While no physical violence was reported, the traveller stated that the incident left the group disturbed enough to cut their holiday short and return home the following day.
The post further alleged that the cab driver eventually paid Rs 5,000 towards damages after a heated argument, while the rental company later charged nearly Rs 20,000 for repairs.
Social media reacts strongly
The viral post sparked widespread reactions online, with several users sharing similar travel experiences and concerns regarding local transport issues in Goa.
Some users advised tourists to rent vehicles only from reputed companies with proper documentation and insurance coverage, while others criticised what they described as aggressive taxi practices.
The incident has once again highlighted ongoing debates surrounding tourism, local transport regulations and visitor experiences in one of India’s most popular holiday destinations.
