KANNUR: In a heartbreaking incident, a three-year-old boy lost his life after the ambulance carrying him was delayed for hours in a traffic jam on Saturday.
The child, Prajul, son of Prajosh and Bindu from Palchuram, was battling a severe neurological condition and was being rushed to the Mananthavady Medical College Hospital in Wayanad. According to the family, they contacted the Kottiyoor Primary Health Centre for an ambulance in the afternoon. However, the vehicle reportedly took over three-and-a-half hours to reach their home—a distance that normally takes just 10 minutes.
Once on the road, the ambulance got caught in a 15-km traffic snarl triggered by the large festival crowd, delaying the journey by another two hours. Tragically, Prajul died before reaching the hospital.
Doctors at the medical college later told the family that the boy’s life could possibly have been saved if he had arrived sooner.
The incident has raised serious concerns about emergency access during major public events and the lack of dedicated routes for ambulances in congested areas.
