Hyderabad: An elderly, visually impaired couple lived with the body of their 30-year-old son for four days, unaware he had passed away. The situation came to light when neighbors in Blinds Colony reported a foul smell emanating from the couple’s rented apartment, prompting police intervention on Monday.
The deceased, Pramod, had been living with his parents, Kaluva Ramana, a retired government employee, and his wife, Shantikumari. Pramod was reportedly deserted by his wife, who took their two daughters with her, and he struggled with alcoholism.
Nagole police station’s station head officer, Surya Nayak, explained that the couple, both over 60 years old, had been calling out to Pramod for food and water but received no response, likely due to their frail voices. When police arrived, Ramana and Shantikumari were found in a semi-conscious state and were provided food and water.
Investigators believe Pramod likely died in his sleep four to five days prior, and his body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. After the couple’s rescue, their elder son, Pradeep, who lives elsewhere in the city, was informed and is now caring for them.
