Tragic Incident In Surat Three Girls Die After Inhaling Toxic Fumes From Bonfire

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Surat, Gujarat, on Friday evening when five girls gathered around a bonfire made from burning garbage in an open field in Pali village, Sachin area. Hours later, three of the girls tragically died, while two survived to recount the horrifying sequence of events.

As they sat by the fire, the girls began vomiting and fainted shortly after inhaling the toxic fumes. They were rushed to a private hospital, but despite efforts to save them, Durga Mahanto (12), Amita Mahanto (14), and Anita Mahanto (8) succumbed to the effects of the fumes. The cause of death is believed to be inhalation of poisonous gases, though the final confirmation will come after a postmortem and forensic examination.

Durga Mahanto’s aunt shared that they first took the girls to Civil Hospital in Navsari, but staff allegedly dismissed them in the early hours of the morning. The girls were then transferred to another hospital, where Durga died at around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. Durga’s father, Ram Pravesh Mahanto, expressed confusion and grief over the incident, highlighting a delay in medical attention.

While the possibility of food poisoning from ice cream consumed earlier in the evening is also being considered, the primary suspicion remains that the girls’ condition worsened due to toxic fumes from the bonfire. The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of death will be confirmed following the postmortem and forensic analysis.
