In a heartbreaking incident from Telangana’s Siddipet district, a young couple ended their lives after their families refused to accept their relationship. The tragedy unfolded on June 17 in Avusalonipalli village of Wargal Mandal, where Shiva and Kalpana, both in their early twenties and educated up to intermediate level, died by suicide.

According to the Gowraram police, Kalpana’s family had recently arranged her marriage to her brother-in-law, which deeply distressed the young woman. When Shiva came to know about the arrangement, he ended his life by hanging himself in a field.

Just an hour later, Kalpana, devastated by Shiva’s death, also died by suicide.

Gowraram police station inspector shared, “Shiva and Kalpana were from the same village. Their families had disapproved of their love marriage, and Kalpana’s parents had decided to marry her off to her brother-in-law. Upon hearing this, Shiva took his life. Not long after, Kalpana did the same upon hearing of Shiva’s death.”

Both bodies were taken to Gajwel Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities have filed a case, and further inquiry is in progress.

The incident has reignited conversations around the emotional toll of familial rejection in love marriages, especially in rural areas where traditional values often override personal choice.

Many are calling for greater awareness, mental health support, and open dialogue to prevent such tragedies in the future.
