A social media clip from Varanasi has triggered widespread online discussion after lifestyle vlogger Shweta Kataria documented an unusual sight outside a residential home — a tree with used diapers hanging from its branches. The video, which also shows a person throwing a soiled diaper onto a garbage heap outside the gate, quickly went viral and prompted conversations about hygiene, civic responsibility and waste management.

In the video, Kataria points out that a child lives in the home and alleges that the parents routinely dispose of diapers outdoors instead of using a dustbin. Reacting to the scene, she says, “This tree has become a diaper tree… Don’t these people have a dustbin? People don’t want their surroundings to be clean.” In her caption, she urges viewers to consider the long-term impact on children and suggests cloth diapers as a more sustainable alternative.

The clip spurred many users to call for local authorities to intervene, citing concerns over hygiene and environmental harm caused by improper disposal of soiled diapers. Online commenters stressed that routine household actions — such as using a dustbin or segregating waste — play a major role in maintaining community cleanliness.

The incident has renewed debate on the importance of civic sense, with viewers noting that awareness and education are as crucial as enforcement. Many argued that small behavioural changes at the household level can significantly improve neighbourhood hygiene and public health.
