A 19-year-old student from Tripura has alleged that her live-in partner subjected her to extreme physical and sexual assault at their rented accommodation in Sector 69, prompting a police investigation.

According to the victim’s mother, the young woman called her late on February 16, claiming her life was in danger. She alleged that the accused, identified as Shivam, had confined and assaulted her for three days.

Allegations of prolonged torture

The mother told media that her daughter reported being locked in a room, physically assaulted and burned using hand sanitiser. She further alleged that the accused used a knife to inflict injuries and repeatedly tortured her.

The victim had moved to Gurugram to pursue studies in biotechnology and had reportedly met the accused through an online application. The family has claimed that the man promised marriage before allegedly subjecting her to abuse.

Advocate Reena Rai, representing the victim, alleged that the assault involved severe physical violence and that the medical examination confirmed rape. She questioned why the First Information Report (FIR) reportedly invoked sections related only to minor injuries.

Police investigation underway

Police at Badshahpur police station have registered a case and stated that the matter is under investigation. Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed the specific charges applied, and further legal action may depend on medical reports and forensic findings.

The victim is currently undergoing medical treatment. Family members described her condition as critical, stating she suffered extensive injuries.

The case has sparked outrage and renewed calls for strict enforcement of laws protecting women from domestic and sexual violence. Officials said additional details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
