Burgampad police have arrested two youths, including a private bank employee, for allegedly attempting to murder their friend to claim insurance money exceeding Rs 2 crore.

The accused have been identified as Katta Sai Deepak of Gannavaram and Konda Bhanu Prakash of Bhadrachalam, who works as a sales executive with Axis Bank.

Insurance policy and alleged conspiracy

According to police, the victim, Katta Yashwanth, sustained serious head injuries on the night of February 14 at Mothe village in Burgampad mandal. Initially reported as a road accident, suspicions arose after Yashwanth’s aunt, Mulisettu Rama of Yetapaka mandal in Andhra Pradesh’s ASR district, filed a complaint stating the injuries did not appear accidental.

Investigation revealed that in November 2025, the accused had taken out an insurance policy in Yashwanth’s name, naming Sai Deepak as nominee by claiming to be his relative.

Planned attack disguised as accident

Police said the duo allegedly took Yashwanth to Mothe village, made him consume alcohol, and attacked him from behind with a rod while he was about to mount his scooter. To make it appear as a road accident, they reportedly threw the two-wheeler aside and left him on the road.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime, stating they planned to claim the insurance amount after his death, said Sub-Inspector Meda Prasad.

The injured Yashwanth is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Khammam and remains in serious condition.

Police arrested the accused at Sarapaka while they were travelling in a car. Further investigation is underway.
