In two separate cases of profound generosity, the families of a 58-year-old housewife and a 27-year-old farmer have donated the organs of their brain-dead relatives under the Jeevandan organ donation initiative, offering a new lease of life to several patients in need.
Young farmer’s organs save multiple lives
On December 5, 27-year-old Pallapu Prashanth, a resident of Katepally Chada in Atmakur, Nalgonda, met with a severe accident near Bhongir after his two-wheeler collided with a divider. He was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital and subsequently shifted to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad for advanced care.
Despite intensive treatment in the ICU, Prashanth’s condition deteriorated, and doctors declared him brain dead on December 8 at around 5.30 pm. Displaying immense courage during an unimaginably difficult time, his wife, Pallapu Deepa, consented to donate his organs.
Under Jeevandan guidelines, four organs—two kidneys, the liver and the heart—were retrieved and allocated to critically ill recipients awaiting life-saving transplants.
Housewife’s family honours her by giving the gift of life
In another act of compassion on the same day, the family members of 58-year-old Muthuluru Krishna Kumari, a resident of Raghavendra Nagar, Peerzadiguda, agreed to donate her organs after doctors declared her brain dead following a medical emergency.
Kumari had undergone craniotomy surgery recently. Soon after returning home, she collapsed due to a brain stroke and was rushed to a private hospital, where she received emergency treatment. As her condition continued to deteriorate, the medical team confirmed brain death on December 8.
Her sons, M. Vishnu Narayana and M. Lakshmi Narayana, gave consent for organ donation. A total of five organs—two kidneys, the liver and two corneas—were donated to patients in need, ensuring that their mother’s memory lives on through the lives she helped transform.
Strengthening the culture of organ donation
The Jeevandan programme, recognised nationally for its transparent and ethical organ allocation system, continues to rely on the willingness of families who choose compassion amid grief. These recent donations highlight the life-changing impact of timely decisions and public awareness on organ transplantation.
Medical professionals involved in the procedures expressed gratitude to both families for their humanity, acknowledging that such decisions greatly contribute to saving lives and reducing the waitlist for critical transplant surgeries.
