Two men have been arrested for allegedly setting their own motorcycle on fire at a petrol pump in Raipur, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The incident occurred on February 18 at around 7.40 pm at Sangeeta Petrol Pump located at Karma Chowk under the jurisdiction of Urla Police Station.
Fire triggered during refuelling
According to police, the accused arrived at the petrol pump on a motorcycle to refuel. While an employee was filling petrol, the pillion rider reportedly got down and attempted to light a cigarette using a lighter.
When staff objected to the act due to safety concerns, the man allegedly ignited the lighter deliberately, causing flames to erupt near the motorcycle’s fuel tank while petrol was being dispensed. The fire quickly spread to the tank and the fuel nozzle.
However, alert petrol pump employees acted swiftly and managed to douse the flames, preventing a potential major explosion.
Case registered, bike seized
Based on a complaint filed by the petrol pump employee, police registered a case under Sections 326, 287 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Under the supervision of the station house officer, a team identified and arrested the accused, Dharmendra Singh Kshatriya and Imran Qureshi. The motorcycle and the lighter used in the incident have been seized.
Police said further investigation is underway.
