Kochi: A portion of a helicopter hangar collapsed at INS Garuda, the naval air station at the Southern Naval Comman in Kochi, on Thursday killing two senior sailors of the Naval Aviation Electrical branch.

“Two Navy personnel died of casualties caused due to an aircraft hangar collapse,” a Defense spokesperson told PTI.

The deceased are Naveen (28) from Haryana and Ajith singh (29) from Rajasthan, both in the rank of Chief Petty Officers. Though they were rushed to INHS Sanjeevani, the Naval hospital, they died at the hospital, informed a defense press release, which added that the sliding hangar door of a helicopter dislodged from its supporting rails and fell on the two sailors who were passing by.

Naveen joined the Navy in 2008 and is survived by his wife and a two-year-old daughter, while Ajith joined the Navy in 2009 and is survived by his wife and five-year-old son.
