A festive birthday celebration in Udaipur allegedly turned into a harrowing ordeal for a woman manager, who has accused her colleagues of sexually assaulting her inside a moving car after a company party. The incident, reported to have occurred on the night of Saturday, December 20, has led to the arrest of three people, including the Chief Executive Officer of a private IT firm.
What allegedly happened
According to the survivor’s complaint, the incident took place after she attended a birthday and year-end party hosted by the firm’s CEO at a hotel in the Shobhagpura area. After most guests had left, a female colleague reportedly offered to drop her home. The survivor alleged that she was taken to a car where the CEO and the woman’s husband were already present.
During the drive, the accused allegedly bought substances resembling cigarettes and offered them to the survivor, after which she lost consciousness. Earlier reports have also suggested that liquor was forcibly made to her. When she regained consciousness, the woman alleged that she was being sexually assaulted by all three accused despite resisting. She further claimed that she was kept inside the car overnight and dropped home early the next morning.
Medical confirmation and police action
The survivor said she underwent a medical examination at a private hospital after experiencing severe pain and weakness. The examination reportedly confirmed sexual assault, following which she approached the police.
A case was registered at Sukher police station under Section 70(1) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Udaipur Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal confirmed that all three accused were arrested and produced before a court, which remanded them to four days of police custody.
Troubling questions on workplace safety
The case has sparked outrage, especially as reports suggest that the IT firm had rated itself highly on parameters related to women-friendliness. The survivor worked as a manager at the same company, raising serious questions about workplace ethics, power dynamics and employee safety beyond office hours.
