Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday strongly criticised the Union Budget, alleging that it ignored farmers, failed to address unemployment, and once again sidelined Punjab’s economic interests.
No MSP assurance, farmers disappointed
Reacting to the Budget proposals, Mann said there was no mention of a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), despite it being a long-standing and crucial demand of farmers across the country.
“At a time when farmers are struggling and repeatedly demanding security for their produce, the Budget remains silent on MSP,” the Chief Minister said, calling it a serious omission.
Youth employment concerns unaddressed
Mann also criticised the Centre for failing to announce concrete schemes for job creation. He said the Budget lacked a clear roadmap for generating employment for youth or boosting industrial growth, leaving millions of young Indians uncertain about their future.
“The Budget offers no meaningful solutions to unemployment. Youth aspirations have been ignored,” he remarked.
Inflation, tax relief and Punjab’s economy
Highlighting the burden of rising prices, Mann said the common man is already reeling under inflation, but the Budget provided no relief through tax reforms. “Instead of easing hardships, the Centre has added to the pressure on ordinary citizens,” he said.
Alleging discrimination, Mann said Punjab had once again been treated “like a stepchild” in the Union Budget. He claimed no concrete steps were taken to strengthen the state’s economy or support its development needs.
‘Punjab will rise despite neglect’
Despite his sharp criticism, Mann expressed confidence in the resilience of the people of Punjab. “Punjab’s people are hardworking and full of spirit. Even without the Centre’s support, we will work together to put Punjab back on its feet and lead the state towards progress,” he said.
The remarks come amid growing opposition criticism of the Union Budget, particularly over issues related to agriculture, employment and regional equity.
