A man in Uttar Pradesh died by suicide, leaving a note written in blue ink on his white trousers accusing his wife’s family and two policemen of harassment and extortion.
The incident occurred in Farrukhabad’s Chheda Nagla area. On Monday, Dilip Rajput’s wife complained to the police that he had assaulted her while intoxicated. According to Dilip’s note and his family’s statements, he went to the police station with his father, where constable Yashwant Yadav allegedly demanded ₹50,000 to resolve the complaint. When Dilip refused, he was reportedly beaten.
Later, constable Mahesh Upadhyay is said to have reduced the sum to ₹40,000, which was eventually paid before Dilip was released.
After returning home, Dilip wrote a note on his trousers detailing the alleged abuse by his wife’s father, Vanwari Lala, her brother Raju, brother-in-law Rajnesh Rajput, and the two constables. He then took his own life in his room.
His family discovered the body on Tuesday morning and protested against the police, demanding accountability.
Superintendent of Police Arti Singh stated, “A complaint about domestic violence was filed, and the wife’s relatives arrived at the station. Both sides were helped to reach a compromise. Later, the man returned home and died by suicide. The post-mortem did not reveal any injuries. Based on the family’s complaint, an FIR has been registered naming three relatives and two policemen. A thorough investigation is in progress, and strict action will follow.”
