A 37-year-old government school teacher allegedly died by suicide in Gorakhpur, leaving behind a video message and a four-page note accusing officials of the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) office in Deoria of harassment and financial exploitation.

The deceased, Krishna Mohan Singh, was a resident of Kushinagar district and had been staying at his elder brother’s house in the Gulariha area of Gorakhpur.

Found hanging, video and note recovered

Police said Singh was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Saturday morning after family members broke open his room door when he failed to respond. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

According to officials, Singh had earlier lost his job and was facing an inquiry. In his note, he stated that he and two colleagues were working at Krishak Laghu Madhyamik Vidyalaya in Deoria. Following a 2021 inquiry, an FIR was lodged against seven teachers, and the matter was being contested in the Allahabad High Court.

He alleged that they were asked to pay ₹20 lakh each to resolve the case, later reduced to ₹16 lakh, with an additional ₹50,000 allegedly taken in the name of issuing an advertisement.

Case registered, probe launched

Based on a complaint by Singh’s wife, police have registered a case against BSA Shalini Srivastava, clerk Sanjeev Singh and others. Superintendent of Police Abhinav Tyagi said the video and note are being examined.

The Deoria district administration has formed a three-member inquiry team. A desk assistant has been suspended pending investigation. District Magistrate Divya Mittal assured strict action if irregularities are found.
