The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced a significant update to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system, effective December 31, 2025. This new feature will allow users to view, manage, and transfer all payments and autopayments from any UPI app, regardless of which app was originally used.

Unified management across UPI apps

Currently, users must manage autopayments separately on different apps. For instance, an electricity bill set on Google Pay and a Netflix subscription on PhonePe require separate tracking. With the upcoming changes, all payments can be accessed and controlled from a single app, simplifying financial planning and management.

Moreover, users will have the ability to transfer autopayments from one app to another if they decide to switch their preferred UPI platform. This consolidation will particularly benefit those who regularly use multiple UPI apps.

Enhanced security with new authentication

NPCI has also introduced new authentication measures, including face recognition and biometric verification, to enhance the security of UPI transactions. Officials assured that the update will not force users to use any particular app, and there will be no cashback offers or notifications to influence app choice.

“The change empowers users to consolidate and manage all their autopayments, including subscriptions, bill payments, and loan instalments, in a secure and seamless manner,” said an NPCI spokesperson.

Timeline for implementation

The feature is mandatory for all UPI apps and payment service providers and must be implemented by December 31, 2025. The update is expected to improve transparency, efficiency, and convenience for millions of digital payment users across India.

Benefits for financial planning

This update will significantly simplify payment tracking, reduce the chances of missed payments, and help users plan their finances more effectively. It also ensures that switching apps will not disrupt autopayments, which is particularly advantageous for users who migrate between apps due to preference, offers, or convenience.

UPI has consistently been India’s leading digital payments platform, and these enhancements reaffirm its position as a safe, user-friendly, and integrated financial tool for everyday transactions.
