In a heartwarming tale of communal harmony, Mohammad Ali, a devout Muslim from Jaitapur Bazar in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, has become a beacon of unity, symbolizing the power of faith to transcend religious boundaries. Ali, who has served for 18 years as the caretaker and president of the Vriddh Mateshwari Mata Ghurdevi Temple, has garnered admiration from both Hindus and Muslims alike for his dedication to both his Islamic beliefs and temple service.
Ali, 58, balances his religious duties of observing roza and namaz with his role in the temple, where he worships Goddess Ghurdevi and Lord Hanuman. His connection to the temple dates back to his childhood, when a visit to the shrine helped heal his condition of leukoderma. Inspired by a dream in which the Goddess asked him to take care of the temple, Ali began his active involvement in 2007.
Under his leadership, the temple has flourished, raising significant funds for its development, including Rs 2.7 lakh in a single year. With contributions from the community and government, the temple has seen renovations worth Rs 30-40 lakh, including the installation of a 5.5-foot Hanuman idol. Ali’s efforts have earned recognition, and the temple was included in a religious tourism initiative, further elevating its significance. His actions have inspired both Muslim and Hindu women to pray together, exemplifying his commitment to fostering communal unity.
