Ayodhya: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has written to the Ayodhya Police, urging investigators to examine allegations made by several Opposition leaders, including Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav and AAP MP Sanjay Singh, regarding the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple.

VHP seeks statements from Opposition leaders

In a letter dated July 4 addressed to Ayodhya Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Tiwari, the investigating officer in the case, VHP International President Alok Kumar requested that the leaders be summoned to explain the factual basis of their public statements.

The VHP said the leaders had made specific allegations that were widely circulated through television channels, social media platforms and other electronic media.

According to the letter, the police should seek details of the source of their information, supporting documents and any other material related to their claims.

Allegations involved specific figures

The VHP stated that the leaders had cited specific figures while making allegations concerning donations at the Ram temple.

The letter referred to remarks allegedly made by Priyanka Gandhi, who questioned whether junior employees alone could have switched off CCTV cameras and manipulated offerings worth thousands of crores or whether influential individuals were involved.

It also cited Kejriwal’s statements alleging that around ₹200 crore in cash, along with valuables such as jewellery, silver bricks, lamps, Lord Ram’s garland and charan padukas, had allegedly been stolen.

The VHP further referred to statements attributed to Ram Gopal Yadav, who allegedly spoke of a ₹20,000-crore scam, and Sanjay Singh, who allegedly claimed that more than ₹200 crore had been stolen from the temple’s donation boxes.

VHP seeks legal action if claims are false

The organisation said that if the Opposition leaders possess credible evidence supporting their allegations, it should be placed before investigators to assist in uncovering the truth.

However, it added that if the allegations are found to have been made without any factual basis or supporting material, the investigating agency should consider taking action as permitted under the law.

According to the VHP, knowingly making false or reckless allegations that promote hatred, ill will or enmity should not go unaddressed.

Investigation continues

The VHP said its request was aimed at ensuring a fair, comprehensive and impartial investigation into the allegations relating to temple donations.

The organisation urged the police to verify the claims made by the Opposition leaders and proceed further based on the findings of the inquiry.

The Ayodhya Police have not yet publicly responded to the VHP’s request.
