Video of person stealing jewellery from accident victim in Mumbai sparks outrage

A disturbing video has surfaced, showing an individual stealing gold bangles from the body of a woman who was killed in a tragic bus accident in Mumbai’s Kurla area. The woman, identified as Kanis Fatima Ansari, was one of seven people who died in the accident, which also left over 40 others injured.

In the video, the thief, wearing a helmet, can be seen removing the gold bangles from the lifeless woman’s hands while a voice is heard saying, “Haath mein gold hai” (“There’s gold on her hand”). The footage has gone viral and triggered widespread condemnation. Mumbai police have launched a search for the person responsible, and authorities have promised strict action.

Abid, the victim’s son, expressed his sorrow and anger, calling the act “unfortunate.” He said, “It’s sad that people are snatching from the dead. We waited for a couple of days, but it now appears that the person stole the jewellery, so we filed a complaint.”

The accident occurred on Monday when a bus operated by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) lost control and collided with 22 vehicles. The bus driver, Sanjay More, was arrested on charges of culpable homicide, and investigations revealed that he had minimal experience operating electric buses.

The incident has highlighted the need for better safety measures and stronger penalties for those who exploit tragedy for personal gain.
