VinFast is preparing to enter India’s electric mobility market through its ride-hailing platform GSM, with plans to launch all-electric taxi services starting at around Rs 8 per kilometre.
The company has reportedly begun recruiting driver-partners across major Indian states as part of its large-scale expansion strategy. Sources suggest drivers may receive salaries ranging between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000 per month.
10,000 EV taxis planned for India
GSM, backed by Vietnam’s Vingroup, is expected to deploy nearly 10,000 electric vehicles in India, including the “Limo Green” electric MPV based on the VinFast VF platform.
The company is likely to compete directly with major ride-hailing platforms such as Uber and Ola as demand for sustainable urban transport continues to grow.
Reports suggest the timing of the launch is significant following the suspension of operations by electric taxi service BluSmart, which created opportunities in the EV cab segment.
Focus on premium electric mobility
According to company officials, GSM plans to use only VinFast vehicles for its operations to maintain consistent service quality and reliability.
The fleet is expected to include the VF5 electric crossover and the Limo Green multi-purpose vehicle aimed at premium and high-capacity ride segments.
Pham Sanh Chau reportedly stated that the company aims to build a complete green mobility ecosystem combining vehicle manufacturing with commercial fleet operations.
VinFast is also strengthening its manufacturing presence in Tamil Nadu as India rapidly moves towards electric transportation and cleaner urban mobility solutions
