Karur: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will visit Karur on Friday to hand over appointment orders to members of 32 families affected by the tragic stampede that claimed 41 lives during a TVK rally in September 2025.
The visit marks Vijay’s first official trip to Karur since assuming office as Chief Minister in May.
CM to console bereaved families
During the visit, Vijay will meet and console the families of the 41 people who lost their lives in the stampede that occurred during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally on September 27, 2025.
The Chief Minister is expected to personally hand over government appointment orders to eligible members of 32 affected families as part of the state’s rehabilitation and relief measures.
People’s meet scheduled
Vijay will also participate in a ‘Makkal Santhippu’ (People’s Meet) at 11 a.m. at a private college ground on the Karur-Salem Highway, where he is expected to interact with party workers and members of the public.
The programme is expected to draw thousands of supporters from Karur and neighbouring districts.
Tight security in place
State Minister and TVK General Secretary N. Anand said elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit.
Only 5,000 people possessing QR code-based entry passes will be permitted to attend the public event. Authorities have appealed to attendees to strictly follow police guidelines to ensure the programme is conducted safely.
The administration has deployed additional police personnel and crowd management measures to prevent any untoward incidents, keeping in mind the lessons learned from the 2025 stampede.
