Residents of Khurampur village in Gurugram were left shocked after Rajasthan Police detained a young medical student allegedly linked to the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak investigation.
Yash Yadav, a first-year BAMS student studying in Uttarkashi, was known in the village for his academic performance and was celebrated locally after scoring 98 per cent in CBSE examinations.
Student allegedly linked to leaked ‘guess paper’
According to investigators, Yash is suspected to have received a “guess paper” containing several questions that later appeared in the NEET-UG examination conducted on May 3.
Officials believe the material may have been sourced through contacts in Nashik and later circulated to others in Rajasthan. Investigators suspect the paper was sold for Rs 15–20 lakh to accused individuals, including members of the Biwal family from Jaipur who were recently arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Sources said Yash allegedly gained access to the paper nearly a week before the examination and may have developed links with other suspects during his medical coaching period in Sikar.
Family and neighbours defend student
Despite the allegations, neighbours described Yash as polite, sincere, and hardworking. Villagers said his father, a farmer, had struggled financially to educate all three children.
Residents also claimed the family was not informed clearly about the reasons behind his detention. Several villagers expressed disbelief over the arrest, while family members reportedly travelled to Rajasthan seeking permission to meet him.
Police are now examining financial transactions and possible links between the accused and earlier NEET-related irregularities.
Probe widens after NEET cancellation
The NEET-UG 2026 examination was cancelled earlier this week after allegations of a widespread paper leak surfaced across multiple states.
The investigation continues under the supervision of the CBI, with authorities probing the digital circulation of question papers through messaging platforms
