A viral video showing passengers arguing with airline staff has been widely circulated on social media, with claims that it was filmed during the Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi that was forced to turn back due to clogged toilets. However, the video, which has garnered millions of views, is actually two months old and was not filmed during the recent incident.
The Air India flight AI126, which was en route from Chicago to Delhi on March 6, spent 10 hours in the air before returning to the US due to 8 of its 12 toilets becoming unusable. The issue was initially reported as a “technical malfunction,” but Air India later clarified that the toilets were clogged after passengers flushed items like plastic bags, clothes, and rags.
The viral video, first shared by an X user named Dom Lucre, showed a heated argument between passengers and crew on board. Lucre suggested that it was filmed during the aforementioned flight, and his post quickly gained traction, amassing nearly 18 million views. However, a quick fact-check revealed that the video was actually posted in January 2025, showing a different incident involving passengers on a separate Air India flight from London. The disagreement reportedly arose after passengers were told their flight was canceled, despite having already been seated for 7 hours.
This old video spread quickly across various platforms like Reddit and Instagram, with some users mistakenly connecting it to the recent flight disruption, leading to widespread misinformation.
