A viral video showing two women pulling a patient on a wheeled stretcher across a busy road between Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MY Hospital) and the Government Dental College Indore has prompted an internal inquiry by authorities.
The 1.21-minute clip, reportedly recorded on February 13, surfaced on social media on Monday and quickly drew attention over concerns about patient safety.
Confusion over operation theatre
Government Dental College Principal Dr Alka Gupta confirmed that a multi-trauma patient was mistakenly brought to the dental college’s Operation Theatre (OT) No. 3 instead of OT No. 3 at MY Hospital.
According to her, attendants inadvertently took the patient across the road due to confusion over the OT number. Once the error was clarified, the attendants returned the patient to MY Hospital.
Hospital seeks clarification
Initially, MY Hospital Superintendent Dr Ashok Yadav denied that the patient or stretcher belonged to his facility, stating that CCTV footage did not show the individual visiting the hospital’s OPD or casualty ward. He also indicated that the stretcher might belong to an NGO operating on campus.
However, after being informed about dental college records, Dr Yadav said the administration would further examine OT records and consult doctors to establish the sequence of events. He added that MY Hospital has its own dental OPD and provides bedside dental care through resident doctors.
The incident has raised questions about coordination between the two institutions and the need for clearer communication to prevent such confusion in critical medical situations.
