Despite Visakhapatnam’s scenic beauty, the city struggles with a shortage of child-friendly parks, leaving children with limited outdoor play spaces. Many existing parks, including those managed by municipalities and residential welfare associations, impose restrictions, lack proper equipment, or suffer from poor maintenance.

Seventh-grader S. Abhinav expressed frustration over park guards preventing him from using play structures due to his height. Parents like Rajeshwari worry that the absence of outdoor spaces is driving children towards excessive screen time.

GVMC deputy director (Horticulture) M. Damodara Rao acknowledged the issue, stating that authorities are working on solutions, including partnerships with residential associations under a PPP model.

With summer holidays approaching, families urge officials to act swiftly to restore parks and ensure children have safe, welcoming play areas.
