A shocking incident from Meerut has raised fresh concerns over illegal LPG cylinder sales after a street vendor allegedly discovered water inside a newly purchased cooking gas cylinder.

The incident reportedly took place in Jogiwali Gali in the Tarapuri area under Lisadi Gate locality, where a local vendor claimed he unknowingly bought a defective LPG cylinder from an unauthorised seller at an inflated price.

Vendor says he paid ₹2,500 for cylinder

According to reports, Faheem, who runs a pakora stall, urgently needed a gas cylinder after the supply at his home reportedly ran out.

Unable to immediately obtain a cylinder through authorised channels, he allegedly purchased a 14-kg LPG cylinder from a man selling cylinders on a bicycle in the locality.

Faheem claimed he paid ₹2,500 for the cylinder, far higher than the government-approved rate, because it was allegedly being sold through the black market.

Stove failed to ignite

After taking the cylinder home, the vendor reportedly connected it to his stove but found that the burner would not ignite despite repeated attempts.

Initially suspecting a problem with the stove or regulator, he allegedly continued trying before becoming suspicious and inspecting the cylinder more closely.

According to the vendor, he was shocked to see water flowing out after turning the cylinder upside down.

Viral video sparks outrage

Faheem recorded a video of the incident, which later went viral on social media.

He alleged that the cylinder contained only a very small amount of LPG while the remaining portion was filled with water.

The viral clip has triggered widespread concern online and renewed warnings against purchasing LPG cylinders from unauthorised sellers.

Concerns over illegal LPG trade

The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with black-market LPG sales, especially during emergencies and supply shortages.

Experts warn that unauthorised cylinders can pose serious safety risks, including fraud, leakage, fire hazards, and accidents.

Authorities are expected to examine the incident and investigate the alleged illegal sale network.
