What was initially thought to be a tragic road accident in Wayanad has now been revealed as a cold-blooded murder. The June 8 death of 71-year-old Beefathimma, a pillion rider on a scooter, has led to the arrest of five individuals—including a minor—from Kasargod, after police confirmed the crash was intentional.

Beefathimma, a resident of Nellimundam Kalappura, was traveling with her grandson Afnan when a Bolero jeep allegedly rammed into their scooter near Meppadi around 11 a.m. While she died on the spot after being thrown off the road, Afnan suffered serious injuries.

According to Meppadi police, the chain of events began with a heated altercation between the scooter riders and the occupants of the jeep over right of way. The situation escalated when the jeep deliberately chased and collided with the two-wheeler.

The case, initially filed as an unnatural death, took a dramatic shift after Afnan recovered enough to give a detailed statement. Backed by CCTV footage and multiple eyewitness accounts, police established that the act was not accidental but intentional.

The arrested are Akhil (28), Prashanth (21), Nidhi Narayanan (20), Nithin (22), and a 17-year-old, all from Perumbala in Kasargod. Akhil, who was driving the vehicle, was the first to be interrogated. His confession and corroborating evidence led to murder charges against the group.

All five are now in custody as further investigation unfolds.
