Kozhikode: A well collapse at Kommeri near Valayanad on Friday morning (July 11) prompted the emergency evacuation of four families from nearby homes. The operation, led by personnel from the Meenchanda Fire and Rescue Services, safely relocated 30 residents, including children and elderly individuals, to safer locations.
The collapsed public well was situated dangerously close to the affected houses, raising fears of further structural damage. The evacuation was carried out under the supervision of senior Revenue officials and local body representatives.
Rescue officials confirmed that the families cannot return until the area is cleared following a field-level safety inspection by Kozhikode Corporation authorities. The Geology Department has also been informed to assess the structural risks in the area.
