Sunil Sadarangani (60), the owner of the once-popular Multani Bakery, died by suicide on Wednesday after allegedly jumping from the 17th floor of a residential building on Vijaypur Road, police said.
The incident occurred at Panash Apartment in the afternoon and has left the city’s business and trading circles in deep shock.
Final moments witnessed by residents
According to preliminary information shared by police, Sadarangani arrived at the building and chose to climb the stairs instead of using the elevator. Residents later noticed him standing on the rooftop with folded hands, appearing to pray, and immediately alerted the building’s security staff.
A security guard rushed to the rooftop and reportedly managed to persuade him to come down. However, police said that after descending, Sadarangani told the guard that he had forgotten his keys on the terrace. Using this as an excuse, he went back up to the 17th floor and jumped from the building.
He died on the spot.
Police begin probe, video under verification
A video purportedly showing Sadarangani standing with folded hands moments before the incident has surfaced on social media. Police officials said the video is being verified as part of the investigation.
Soon after receiving information, police reached the spot and cordoned off the area. The body was sent for post-mortem examination at a government hospital. A case of accidental death has been registered.
Cause remains unknown
Police said no suicide note has been recovered so far. Investigators are speaking with family members and close associates to determine whether personal, financial or health-related concerns may have contributed to the incident.
Sadarangani was a familiar name in Solapur’s business circles, with Multani Bakery having enjoyed significant popularity in the city for several years. His sudden death has triggered an outpouring of grief among traders and residents.
