Five Missing as Boat Capsizes in Rupnarayan River

Howrah (West Bengal): Police in West Bengal’s Howrah district reported that five individuals have gone missing following a tragic boat capsizing incident in the Rupnarayan river.

According to authorities, a group of 19 people hailing from Howrah district’s Belgachia, Shibpur, and Bagnan areas had embarked on a picnic excursion to Tribeni Park in Paschim Medinipur district’s Daspur. Tragedy struck as they were returning home on Thursday night when their boat overturned in the middle of the river.

Upon hearing the distress calls, nearby boats rushed to the scene and managed to rescue several individuals. However, efforts to locate the missing five individuals were ongoing, as confirmed by police sources.

District Magistrate Dipapriya P of Howrah stated that upon receiving news of the accident, two disaster management teams and civil defense personnel were mobilized to aid in the rescue operation.

Superintendent of Police Swati Bhangalia affirmed that rescue operations were actively in progress.

Healthcare centers in the vicinity provided assistance to some of the rescued individuals, as per officials’ reports.
