Early this morning, a powerful whirlwind struck Thrissur district, leaving a trail of destruction across several areas including Puthukkad, Varandarappilly, Nanthipulam, Chengaloor Kundukadavu, and Attapilly. The violent storm uprooted trees, causing them to crash onto houses, snap powerlines, and wreak havoc on local farms.
In Puthukkad, trees fell on the homes of residents such as Ollukkaran Paul, Korattikkaran Ammini, Chulliparambil Manoj of SN Puram, and Mookkuparambil Ashokan of Nanthipulam. The storm also uprooted over 300 plantains belonging to Eriyakkad Girish. In Kundukadavu, a large tree collapsed, partially damaging six houses. In Nanthipulam, an areca nut tree fell, causing roof tiles to fly off and injuring Rukmini, the wife of Vadathala Vijayan. Additionally, a tree fell on the car of Kottukulam Suresh, compounding the damage.
The storm caused significant disruptions to daily life due to extensive damage to power lines. A transformer on Chengaloor road was toppled, adding to the power outage issues. Local MLA K Ramachandran, along with other representatives, visited the affected areas to assess the damage and begin recovery efforts.
