A shocking incident in Kavi Nagar, Ghaziabad, has underscored the importance of proactive child protection. Four teenagers, aged 14 to 17, have been named in an FIR for allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old girl in her flat on Sunday morning while she was alone.

According to police, two of the accused studied at the same school as the girl, while the others attended different institutions. The FIR, filed late Sunday night by her father, states that the main accused—a Class XI student—had persistently asked to meet her. They were connected on social media platforms. When he arrived with three others, the girl was unsupervised, as her father was at work and her mother had stepped out briefly.

The complaint alleges the boys forcibly entered the flat, restrained the girl, and committed the offence. Her mother returned, found the door open, and immediately raised an alarm. Neighbours gathered, but the boys managed to escape before police arrived.

Police have begun a detailed investigation, including analysing CCTV footage and recording the survivor’s statement. Officials said the girl had reportedly faced harassment on social media prior to the incident.

This case highlights critical lessons:

  • Parents must monitor children’s online interactions and set boundaries around meeting people in person.
  • Communities should strengthen security and promptly report any suspicious activity.
  • Open, supportive family communication can help children speak up before harm occurs.
