One year after the Pahalgam incident that claimed the life of Sameer Guha, his widow says the family continues to face severe financial hardship while she desperately searches for stable employment.
Sameer, who reportedly worked in a central government job, had travelled to Pahalgam with his family for a holiday last April when militants allegedly shot him dead in front of his wife and daughter.
His wife, Shabari Guha, said the family has struggled ever since.
Family battling financial distress
According to Shabari, the family has been left managing household expenses through a limited pension received from her husband’s office.
She said loan repayments for their flat, purchased several years ago, along with their daughter’s education expenses, have created growing pressure.
With no regular salary income, savings are steadily reducing.
Widow says pain remains fresh
Speaking emotionally, Shabari said the trauma of the killing remains deeply painful and cannot be understood by those who have not experienced such loss.
She added that public attention has faded with time, while the family continues to face daily struggles.
Job promise yet to materialise
She said she has not yet secured a job despite expectations of support after the tragedy.
Reports suggest other affected families in similar situations are also waiting for promised assistance and employment opportunities.
Need for continued support
Cases like this often highlight the long-term economic and emotional burden carried by families of terror victims long after headlines fade.
Many citizens online have called for faster rehabilitation measures, compassionate appointments and sustained assistance.
