A 50-year-old woman, Munniyammal, was arrested by the Thiruvanmiyur Government Railway Police (GRP) on Sunday after allegedly beating a 60-year-old man, C Shankar, to death at Perungudi MRTS railway station late Friday night.

Munniyammal, a platform dweller who slept at the station, was in a relationship with Shankar, a construction laborer who had also been living at the station following his separation from his wife. The incident occurred when Shankar, in an inebriated state, quarreled with Munniyammal. During the argument, she allegedly struck him, leading to his death.

In the morning, Munniyammal placed Shankar’s body where he usually slept and notified the railway authorities, who then contacted the police. The GRP sent the body for a postmortem and began an investigation based on a complaint filed by Shankar’s son.

CCTV footage from the station revealed Munniyammal arguing with Shankar and subsequently attacking him. Upon questioning, she confessed to the crime. She was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
