A 62-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the eighth floor of a residential building in Vasant Kunj area of South Delhi on Tuesday morning, police said. Authorities have ruled out foul play in the preliminary investigation.
Incident reported from Saraswati Apartments
According to officials, a PCR call was received at Vasant Kunj South police station at around 8.49 am, reporting a suspected suicide at Saraswati Apartments, located in D-6, Vasant Kunj.
Police teams rushed to the spot and found the woman lying unconscious on the ground. She was later declared dead.
Forensic examination and CCTV review
The Crime Team and officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory were called to inspect the scene. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police said the deceased was a housewife and a resident of the same apartment complex. Family members were questioned as part of routine procedure.
Officials added that CCTV footage from the building was reviewed, which reportedly showed the woman jumping from the top floor on her own. Based on available evidence, police said there were no signs of external interference or foul play at this stage.
Probe into circumstances continues
While the incident appears to be a case of suicide, police said further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and reasons that led to the woman taking the extreme step.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation is ongoing. Officials also reiterated the importance of mental health awareness and timely support, especially among elderly individuals who may be dealing with emotional distress in silence.
