A woman allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the seventh floor of her residential building in Dadar West late on the night of January 27. Police said the incident appears to be linked to her prolonged struggle with mental health issues.
Incident reported late night in Dadar West
The deceased has been identified as Kamla Keshav Agnihotri, a resident of Prabhat 72 building on Keluskar Road in Dadar West. According to officials from Shivaji Park Police Station, they received a call around 12.30 am reporting that an unconscious woman was lying on the footpath outside the building.
Police rushed to the spot and immediately shifted the woman to Sion Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Security guard alerts family, probe begins
During preliminary inquiries, the building’s security guard informed police that the woman had fallen from the seventh floor and lived in Flat No. 701 of the same building. He also alerted her husband, Keshav Agnihotri, about the incident.
A spot inspection revealed that a section of the safety grill attached to the bedroom balcony was found detached from one side, indicating that the woman may have jumped from there.
Husband cites long battle with depression
In his statement to the police, Keshav Agnihotri said his wife had been suffering from severe anxiety and depression for a long period. He added that an appointment had already been scheduled with a doctor in Mahim for January 28, 2026, for further treatment.
The husband told investigators that he does not suspect any foul play and does not hold anyone responsible for the incident.
Case registered, investigation ongoing
Based on preliminary findings, Shivaji Park police have registered a case of Accidental Death (ADR) under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further investigation is underway to formally establish the sequence of events.
Police have urged families facing mental health challenges to seek timely professional support.
