The man has been charged under Indian Penal Code section 304 (A) for causing death by negligence, as he gave the car keys to the woman without confirming whether she had a driving license, the official said.

Shweta Survase, aged 23, died on Monday afternoon after accidentally pressing the accelerator while the car was in reverse gear. Her friend, Suraj Mule, was recording a video of her at the time, according to police.

The vehicle slid backward, broke through a crash barrier, and plunged into a valley in the Sulibhanjan area. Rescuers took an hour to reach her and the car. She was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.

On Tuesday, police registered a case against Mule for allegedly causing death by negligence, an official from Khultabad police station stated.

“We will issue a notice to the accused in accordance with legal guidelines,” the official added.

Shweta’s cousin, Priyanka Yadav, has accused Mule of premeditated murder.

“We were informed about Shweta’s death five to six hours after the accident. She never made videos or posted them on social media. The accused planned her murder and took her 30-40 km away from the city,” she claimed while speaking to reporters.
