The discovery of a woman’s body on a bench at Madhepura railway station in Bihar triggered shock and grief on Tuesday morning, after her two young children were found sitting beside her, crying.
Railway police rushed to the spot upon receiving information. The children later identified their home as Jitapur village in Madhepura district. They named their mother as Kajal Kumari and their father as Mohammad Murshid.
Child’s statement raises serious allegations
According to police sources, one of the children alleged that their father had strangled their mother at home, transported her in an auto-rickshaw and left her body at the railway station.
A senior police officer confirmed that visible marks were found around the woman’s neck. However, officials stated that the exact cause of death would only be established after the post-mortem examination.
The body has been sent for autopsy, and forensic procedures are underway.
Domestic dispute suspected
Relatives informed police that Kajal Kumari was pregnant and already had two children. They claimed that she had a domestic dispute with her husband a few days earlier, following which he reportedly left for work.
Police have informed the woman’s family members and launched a detailed investigation. Statements from neighbours and relatives are being recorded.
Authorities have neither confirmed homicide nor ruled out other possibilities at this stage. They emphasised that conclusions would be drawn only after medical and forensic reports are received.
The incident has deeply disturbed locals, particularly due to the presence of the children beside their mother’s body.
Further legal action will depend on the findings of the post-mortem and ongoing inquiry.
