On May 29, a pregnant passenger on a KSRTC bus operated by the government reported an emergency after experiencing labor pains. While traveling from Thrissur to Kozhikode by bus, she gave birth to a girl child. The doctors, nurses, and locals helped the 37-year-old mother deliver the baby safely in a timely manner.

A video from the incident showing the woman provided with arrangements assisting in child birth has surfaced online. It shows that she was made to rest on the staircase of the bus where the doctors attended her, followed by a female staff stepping outside the bus with the newborn child. People were happy to mark a successfully delivery outside a healthcare unit. The footage recorded the joyous reactions of the staff.

Shortly after the bus crossed the Peramangalam area and traveled a distance, the woman started having severe labour pains. After finding out about this, the bus driver quickly called and decided to change the route to Thrissur. The Amala Hospital in Thrissur was also notified for assistance by the bus staff. When they got to the hospital, the doctors took care of the woman’s needs inside the bus rather than waiting to take her to the ward. The mother and the girl child were admitted to the hospital for additional care after the delivery.

The hospital officials were quoted in reports as saying that they did not encounter any complications during the birth and it was a successful delivery. The health of both the mother and the baby are said to be stable and good.
